Introducing John

John is one of our cost planners. He has the crucial role of providing accurate cost advice and cost certainty to our clients throughout the tender process.

Personal Statement

I joined Wates five years ago having spent forty years in private practice as a Quantity Surveyor and the last ten years as the senior partner of my own practice. As someone who has run their own business I have been very impressed by the way Wates operates. It is a company that gives the support and opportunity to everyone to carry out their job plus providing the incentive for career progression. The training facilities are extremely good and well structured and great attention is paid to Health and Safety in the office space and out on site.

My Week

Cost planning is a fundamelal part of the tendering process and it is my responsibility to provide cost certainty for a client's project. The cost planning process is carried out throughout the tendering stage to the commencement of the project on site. It is normally employed on a two stage tender but is increasingly being applied to a single stage tender approach where cost certainty is paramount.

Where we are appointed to the second stage of a two stage tender I will work very closely with the design team, the client and the end users in order to manage the expectation of the client within the agreed budget. The role requires you to be constantly aware of the latest methods of construction plus the use of the most up to date computer aided technology in order to provide the very best and accurate cost advice to clients.
