Nick’s pivotal role as a project manager involves overseeing all key activities on site and ensuring a build programme runs to schedule.
Personal Statement
I’d previously worked as a freelance project manager in the construction industry for a number of years and was looking for more job security. I have the advantage of working for a number of contractors so I knew that I wanted to work for Wates. It’s a good working environment, the policies and procedures are excellent, the team works very hard and we have some fun too.
My Week
I’m currently overseeing a £50m college development and my role is to ensure the build programme runs to schedule. I have progress meetings with sub-contractors and co-ordinate the various trades we have working at anyone time. I‘m involved in the design meetings and ensure we have all the information needed to fulfil the build as well as keeping all the records. It is hard work, you need to be prepared to stand by your decisions and take control when you are overseeing a number of different teams. But it is really satisfying when your team hands over a successful building to the client.
