Introducing Rob
Rob is one of our site managers, Rob moved into construction from the banking sector when he decided he wanted a career change.
Personal Statement
Having completed a degree in economics I started work for one of the major banks. I soon realised that it wasn’t for me. I have always been interested in construction so decided to make the move. I have been with Wates for over two years now and it’s going really well. I’m currently completing my Masters in Construction Management supported by Wates and my next ambition is to move into a project manager role.
My Week
No two days are ever the same on site. There are different challenges every day. My role is to manage the heath and safety of everyone on site and ensure the project runs to programme so I am dealing with all the trades. The key attributes for my job are communication and listening skills. You have to be able to communicate clearly what needs to be done and you also need to listen. With so many trades on site there’s so much knowledge that you can learn as well. We’ll be on site here for the next 18 months or so and it’s really rewarding to see an open site change to a completed building.
