Introducing Colin
Colin’s focus is on marketing, sales and strategy across all of our businesses as part of our “Selling the Difference” approach.
Personal Statement
I’ve been in sales and marketing for 20 years in a variety of sectors and this is my first experience of construction. Wates appealed to me as it was an opportunity to leverage my skills and bring my experience from other sectors into an industry where professional marketing can return significant advantage. I was also attracted to the fact that Wates is family owned as I’ve worked for a family business before. The strong set of values, people focus and long term view which comes with the Wates ethos is very important to me.
My Week
My role involves meeting with project directors and customer managers helping them to maximise opportunities - getting the best out of our projects and our relationships with our clients. This entails coaching and mentoring people in our sales and marketing approach. Quite often people do this part of their job “intuitively” so I help put a framework in place to share best practice.
Another part of my remit is strategy planning so researching markets and sectors and investigating the best areas for us to be in. I work across all of Wates business areas, so I cover a huge amount of ground but the reward of winning work is immeasurable.
