Commercial Administrator

HMP Hindley | Wigan

Are you an organised, proactive administrator looking to build your career within the construction industry?

Wates Construction is looking for a Commercial Administrator to join our project team at HMP Hindley, supporting the commercial function on a major construction project.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with detail, keeping things organised and being part of a busy project environment. You'll work closely with our commercial and wider site teams, gaining exposure to the financial and contractual processes that sit behind the successful delivery of a major construction project.

About the role

As Commercial Administrator, you'll provide day-to-day administrative support to the commercial team and help ensure our project records and commercial information are accurate, organised and up to date.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the commercial team with the administration and maintenance of project and subcontract records.
  • Assisting with subcontractor pricing documentation, applications and commercial information.
  • Supporting the preparation of valuations, measurements and tender reconciliations where required.
  • Helping to maintain accurate records relating to variations and accounts.
  • Supporting the team with project documentation, meeting records, filing and general commercial administration.
  • Liaising with colleagues, subcontractors and supply chain partners to obtain information and ensure documentation is processed efficiently.
  • Using Excel and internal systems to maintain accurate commercial information and records.
  • Working closely with the project team to ensure information is available when needed.

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in someone who can demonstrate:

  • Strong administration and organisational skills.
  • Good attention to detail and confidence working with numbers and data.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • The ability to communicate professionally with colleagues and supply chain partners.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn.
  • The ability to manage priorities within a busy project environment.
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to work as part of a multidisciplinary site team.

Previous experience within construction, commercial administration, finance, procurement or a project environment would be beneficial.

Why join us?

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join an established Wates project team and develop your understanding of the commercial side of construction. You'll gain exposure to areas including cost control, procurement, supply chain management, valuations and commercial reporting, while working alongside experienced construction professionals.

The role is part of the team supporting HMP Hindley.

If you're organised, commercially curious and looking for an opportunity where you can develop your career while contributing to a significant construction project, we'd love to hear from you.
