Construction Planner / Senior Planner

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Planner or Senior Planner to join our project delivery team, supporting the successful planning and execution of major construction projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a high-calibre planning professional with proven experience working for a Tier 1 main contractor, capable of developing, managing, and monitoring complex project programmes from pre-construction through to completion.

The ideal candidate will possess strong construction planning expertise across large-scale building projects. Experience on education and school projects is highly desirable, although not essential. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and in accordance with client requirements.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with operational teams, clients, consultants, and supply chain partners, providing strategic planning support on high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project programmes using industry-standard planning software (Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject).
• Produce tender, pre-construction, and construction programmes to support project bids and live project delivery.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential programme risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Conduct critical path analysis and provide clear recommendations to project teams.
• Prepare and present programme updates, reports, dashboards, and progress presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support project teams in developing realistic construction sequences, logistics strategies, and resource-loaded programmes.
• Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Commercial teams, Design Managers, and Site Teams to ensure programme objectives are achieved.
• Review subcontractor programmes and integrate them into master project schedules.
• Lead programme review meetings and challenge project assumptions where required.
• Assess programme impacts of design changes, variations, delays, and compensation events.
• Support planning best practice and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
• Contribute to lessons learned exercises and programme benchmarking activities.
• For Senior Planner candidates, provide mentorship and leadership to junior planning staff and support wider regional planning activities.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Experience

• Significant experience in a Construction Planner or Senior Planner role.
• Demonstrable planning experience gained with a Tier 1 construction contractor.
• Strong background in building construction projects from pre-construction through to project completion.
• Proven ability to develop and manage complex construction programmes.
• Expertise in programme analysis, critical path methodology, progress monitoring, and reporting.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and project delivery processes.
• Experience engaging with project teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of programme-related contractual obligations.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

• Experience delivering education or school construction projects.
• Membership of a relevant professional body.
• Experience working on public sector projects.
• Knowledge of NEC contracts.
• Experience supporting bid and tender submissions.
