IT Business Analyst

Role Purpose

To work across projects and programmes to identify business problems and opportunities; elicit, analyse, document and validate requirements; define test strategy and test cases; and support the delivery of suitable IT and business solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify and define business problems and opportunities, understand current (‘As Is') processes and define business requirements to achieve the target (‘To Be') state
  • Plan and manage business analysis activities throughout the project lifecycle
  • Apply best-practice analysis techniques to elicit, document, analyse and validate functional and non-functional requirements
  • Manage requirements end-to-end, ensuring full traceability throughout delivery
  • Select and apply appropriate requirements elicitation and validation techniques to suit different audiences
  • Visualise and communicate requirements using user journeys, process models and wireframes
  • Work closely with Architecture, internal IT teams and third-party suppliers to support the production of integration specification documentation
  • Lead feasibility studies where required
  • Contribute to supplier selection activities and tender evaluations
  • Support the development of robust project business cases
  • Collaborate with internal IT teams and external suppliers to design, test and implement solutions that meet business needs
  • Own and manage detailed test planning, execution and defect management activities
  • Support detailed cutover planning and execution
  • Carry out stakeholder analysis and manage stakeholder relationships throughout delivery
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of internal business analysis capability and best practice

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience undertaking a full end-to-end Business Analyst role on multiple and/or complex projects
  • Strong understanding of business analysis best practice, including:
    • Requirements elicitation, documentation, analysis and validation
    • Requirements traceability
    • Process mapping (including swim-lane diagrams) and BPMN
  • Experience working within both Waterfall and Agile delivery environments
  • Demonstrable ability to manage stakeholders throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Good working knowledge of project delivery artefacts including risks, issues and change control
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Experience using requirements and test management tools such as JIRA and X-Ray
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and systems such as COINS and Causeway (desirable)

  • Confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to tailor requirements elicitation techniques to different stakeholder groups
  • High-quality documentation and governance skills, ensuring clarity and a robust audit trail
  • Ability to visualise requirements using process flows, swim-lane diagrams and wireframes
  • Experience managing testing phases, including defect management
  • Ability to rapidly develop an understanding of technical concepts to:
    • Support integration design
    • Challenge proposed solutions
    • Ensure requirements coverage
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across project teams, IT functions, and internal and external stakeholders

 

Qualifications

  • BCS (ISEB), IIBA or equivalent Business Analysis qualification
  • Business change management qualification or experience (desirable
