At Wates Property Services, we're looking for an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to join our growing Facilities Management team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled gas professional who takes pride in delivering first-class maintenance, fault finding and compliance across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties.

Whether you're an experienced mobile engineer or currently operating in a static site environment, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our clients' building services remain safe, compliant and operating at peak performance.

The Role

As a Commercial Gas Engineer, you'll be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and complex fault diagnosis across a wide range of commercial gas systems including boilers, burners, water heaters and associated mechanical plant.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You'll work closely with clients, subcontractors and internal teams, acting as a trusted technical expert while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance across commercial gas assets.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on boilers, burners, heating systems and controls.
  • Carry out commercial and domestic gas safety inspections and certification.
  • Complete gas tightness testing, flue gas analysis and associated compliance checks.
  • Maintain accurate records through CAFM systems and digital reporting tools.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues and junior engineers.
  • Manage minor installation and upgrade projects where required.
  • Ensure all work complies with current Gas Safety Regulations and British Standards.
  • Participate in the regional out-of-hours call-out rota.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, providing technical advice and updates on system performance.

About You

We're looking for a proactive and technically competent engineer who can work independently while delivering exceptional customer service.

Essential Requirements

✅ Current ACS Commercial Gas Qualifications including:

  • COCN1
  • CIGA1
  • CORT1
  • ICPN1

✅ Domestic Gas Qualifications including:

  • CCN1
  • CENWAT

✅ COCNP1 and TPCP1/1A

✅ NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing & Heating, Gas Engineering or equivalent

✅ Minimum 3–5 years' experience within a commercial maintenance or FM environment

✅ Full UK Driving Licence (for mobile positions)

Desirable

  • OFTEC or LPG qualifications
  • G3 Unvented Hot Water Qualification
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Legionella Awareness or Responsible Person training
  • Experience working within Facilities Management contracts
  • Knowledge of BMS and HVAC systems
