The Opportunity
We are seeking a Project Director to lead the delivery of a major commercial project in Bedfordshire. This is a high‑profile role within our Construction business, requiring strong leadership, strategic oversight and a collaborative approach to driving successful project outcomes.
You will have full accountability for project delivery, providing leadership across all functions to ensure the project is delivered safely, commercially and to the highest quality standards, while building strong and trusted client relationships.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing overall leadership and direction for the successful delivery of a large‑scale commercial project
- Taking full accountability for programme, cost, quality, safety and risk management
- Leading and integrating multidisciplinary project teams, including commercial, design, planning and construction
- Building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with the client and key stakeholders
- Ensuring robust commercial governance, cost control and margin protection
- Managing risk, change control and strategic decision‑making throughout the project lifecycle
- Championing a strong safety, sustainability and quality culture
- Representing Wates at senior client, partner and governance forums
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience operating at Project Director level on major construction projects in excess of £100m
- Strong background in delivering complex commercial construction schemes
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Strong commercial acumen with sound financial and contractual understanding
- Experience leading large, multidisciplinary project teams
- A calm, decisive and solutions‑focused leadership style
