We are looking for a Project Manager to support the successful delivery of the major project works at HMP Hindley—a role that will suit someone who takes real pride in what they deliver, leads from the front, and brings teams with them.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of meaningful project responsibilities in a secure environment, where doing the right thing, working safely, and delivering quality first time really matters

About the Role

As Project Manager, you will be accountable for the safe, efficient and high-quality planning and delivery within your area of responsibility — setting the tone on site, building a strong team culture, and ensuring we deliver on our commitments.

This is a hands-on leadership role where visibility, communication and collaboration are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership and provide Leadership across your span of control
  • Ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing—with zero compromise
  • Build strong relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders, acting as a trusted point of contact
  • Drive programme, commercial and quality performance, ensuring projects are delivered right first time
  • Work closely with commercial and technical teams to manage risks and maximise opportunities
  • Champion a collaborative, solutions-focused approach across the project

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager within main contracting
  • Experience delivering projects within secure environments, public sector or complex live sites (desirable)
  • Strong leadership style, with the ability to engage, motivate and challenge teams positively
  • Clear communicator who builds trust with clients and colleagues
  • A mindset focused on ownership, doing the right thing, and delivering quality outcomes
  • Strong understanding of programme, commercial and operational delivery

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of this project, the successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance to work within a live custodial environment.

This will include:

  • Enhanced background checks and vetting procedures
  • Proof of right to work in the UK
  • Satisfactory references and employment history

Please note that clearance must be in place prior to starting on site, and ongoing compliance with site security protocols will be essential.

Why Join Us?

At HMP Hindley, this role is about more than delivery—it's about making a difference, setting standards, and leaving a legacy you can be proud of. You'll be supported by a strong regional team, with the autonomy to lead your project your way—while staying true to our values.

Our commitments:

We don't discriminate based on a criminal record; all applications are reviewed on an individual basis against the requirements of the role. Some roles may require additional checks, due to the nature of the work.  As a Disability Confident Leader, we offer an interview to applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for the role and opt in to the Disability Confident scheme.  Reasonable adjustments are available, please contact us at recruitment@wates.co.uk
