About the Role
WPS are seeking an experienced Project Surveyor to join our WFM Projects team, based from our Finsbury Park office in London. This is a key commercial role within a project-led environment, supporting the delivery of projects safely, profitably, and in line with Wates' values and commercial standards.
You'll take ownership of commercial performance across projects, working closely with project teams, supply chain partners, and clients to manage risk, maximise value, and ensure robust financial control.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with Wates and subcontractor health & safety processes
- Review subcontractor safety audits prior to payment authorisation
- Promote Group SHE policies and undertake site safety samples
- Ensure all subcontract documentation meets Wates SHE standards
Commercial & Financial Management
- Manage project risks and opportunities in line with agreed Tender Profit Plans
- Set and deliver commercial performance objectives
- Prepare and agree valuations, cash flow, and final accounts
- Ensure contractual obligations and procurement strategies are met
- Understand and manage claims, loss & expense, and contractual positions
- Support accurate group and business unit financial reporting
Leadership & People Development
- Take ownership of key project objectives and outcomes
- Support, develop, and mentor commercial team members
- Identify training and development needs and support learning initiatives
- Build strong, collaborative relationships across site and office teams
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Develop effective relationships with clients, PQSs, design teams, and supply chain
- Act as a trusted commercial partner on projects
- Support the implementation of Wates' Corporate Responsibility (CR) policies
- Identify opportunities to add value and support repeat business
About You
- Proven experience working as a Project Surveyor or similar role within a construction or FM projects environment
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage cost, value, and risk
- Confident managing subcontract procurement and commercial processes
- Able to interpret financial reports and manage cash flow and final accounts
- Comfortable working collaboratively while taking accountability for results
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
Essential Experience & Knowledge:
- Construction methods and techniques
- Measurement and valuation
- Subcontract procurement and management
- Contractual procedures and commercial controls
Skills:
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
- Excellent commercial and financial acumen
- Ability to develop and support commercial teams
- Confident communicator with strong organisational skills
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar
- MRICS and / or MCIOB (or working towards)
