Senior Estimator

Wates Fit Out is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior Estimator to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in securing high-profile commercial fit out projects across London and the South East, working with some of the UK's most prestigious occupiers, developers, and public sector clients.

As a Senior Estimator, you will lead the estimating process on a diverse portfolio of CAT A and CAT B commercial fit out projects, ranging from workplace refurbishments and office fit outs through to complex, high-value transformation schemes. You will be responsible for developing robust cost plans, coordinating bid submissions, engaging with the supply chain, and supporting successful project wins.

Working closely with our Pre-Construction, Design, Commercial, and Delivery teams, you will bring a strategic approach to pricing, ensuring competitive and commercially sound submissions that reflect our commitment to quality, innovation, and customer success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for CAT A and CAT B commercial fit out projects.
• Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and employer requirements to develop comprehensive pricing strategies.
• Prepare accurate take-offs, subcontractor enquiries, and detailed pricing analyses.
• Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions that enhance competitiveness while maintaining quality.
• Manage and coordinate the tender process from initial enquiry through to final submission.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
• Participate in tender settlement meetings and support negotiations with clients and stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with the wider pre-construction team to develop winning bid strategies.
• Contribute to benchmarking activities, market intelligence gathering, and cost database development.
• Mentor and support junior members of the estimating team where appropriate.
• Assist in post-tender reviews and handover processes to operational teams.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and commercially focused estimator who thrives in a fast-paced pre-construction environment and possesses a strong understanding of the commercial fit out sector.

You will have:

• Proven experience working as a Senior Estimator, Estimator, or similar role within the fit out, refurbishment, or interiors market.
• Extensive experience pricing CAT A and CAT B commercial fit out projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, fit out packages, building services, and current market rates.
• Experience working on projects typically ranging from £1m to £50m+ in value.
• Excellent understanding of tendering processes, procurement routes, and risk management.
• Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
