Want to see your impact in every home we build across Wales & West?

Help build the homes we need and make them better for people and planet.

Every home we build is a chance to cut carbon, protect nature and leave a community better than we found it. As our Senior Sustainability and Environment Advisor, you'll turn Wates Residential's environmental ambitions into action on live housing projects.

Why this role matters

  • See your impact. You'll be the face of sustainability on our Wales & West projects, from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Shape how we perform across the region. Your reporting on carbon, energy, water, waste, biodiversity net gain and premanufactured value will give our leaders the picture they need to act.
  • Help win the work that matters. You'll support bids with the evidence and case studies that show why Wates is the right partner for sustainable housing.

What you'll do

  • Be the first point of contact for sustainability and environmental support on Wales & West projects, with regular site visits and hands on implementation support.
  • Turn company, client, planning and design commitments into clear project actions, and track them through to delivery.
  • Plan and carry out project and supplier audits and inspections, and drive corrective actions to close-out.
  • Support bids by reviewing tender requirements, building evidence and drafting initial content.
  • Capture lessons learned and case studies so good ideas spread across the business.
  • Work with procurement and the supply chain on carbon reduction, responsible sourcing and resource efficiency.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, training and communications that bring teams with you.

What you'll bring

  • Experience in sustainability or environmental management within construction, the built environment or a related field.
  • A relevant degree, vocational qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Practical knowledge of site environmental management, audits and corrective-action processes.
  • An understanding of whole-life and operational carbon, biodiversity net gain, water, waste duty of care and resource efficiency.
  • Confidence with data, using Excel and Power BI or similar reporting tools, and a eye for detail and audit trails.
  • The ability to manage several projects and deadlines at once, and to work independently across dispersed sites.
  • Clear, credible communication with site teams, designers, commercial colleagues and the supply chain.

Desirable

  • Membership of, or progress towards, a professional body such as IEMA, CIWM, CIBSE or ICE.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with the RIBA stages and with planning and client sustainability requirements.
  • Residential construction experience.
