At Wates, we're committed to creating a more sustainable future. We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Utilities Advisor to join our Group ESG team, supporting the delivery of our energy, carbon and sustainability objectives across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking team, where you'll play a key role in managing utilities procurement and data, supporting projects and stakeholders, and helping drive informed decisions that contribute to our net zero ambitions.
About the role
As our Utilities Advisor, you'll support the Energy & Carbon team by coordinating utility-related activities, maintaining accurate information, and engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
You'll act as a central point of contact for utility enquiries, helping projects and business units access the information and support they need while ensuring robust processes and reporting are in place.
As our Utilities advisor you will:
- Act as the first point of contact for utility-related enquiries across the business.
- Liaise with utility providers, procurement teams, supply chain partners and commercial teams.
- Support the collection and management of utility, metering and consumption data.
- Assist with energy and carbon reporting activities, including renewable energy certification tracking, maintaining records of electricity supplies, securing and validating Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates, and liaising with energy suppliers to ensure supporting evidence is obtained and recorded in a timely manner.
- Manage both commercial and domestic supplies. The latter are required for our residential schemes before they are sold
- Produce regular and ad-hoc reports to support business performance and decision-making.
- Monitor and track utility costs, supporting project teams with utility close-out activities.
- Carry out research into emerging utility trends, technologies and opportunities.
- Help identify and support initiatives that contribute to energy efficiency, carbon and water reduction targets.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all stakeholders receive timely and relevant information.
What we are looking for:
We'd love to hear from candidates who have:
- Strong analytical and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience working with data, reporting and administration processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of Power BI or data visualisation tools.
- An interest in sustainability, utilities, energy or carbon management.
- Experience within construction, property, utilities or a related sector (desirable).
- A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline (desirable).
