OUR PEOPLE THRIVE

About you…

Whether you have construction experience, want a career change, or are returning to work after a break, we’d love to hear from you.

Above all, we want people who are passionate about quality and transformation. Someone who can challenge the norm and bring us fresh ideas. Ideally, you’ll have a background in quality assurance or construction. In terms of qualifications, being a member of the Charter Quality Institute would be good, but it’s not a must. It’s more about your attitude and behaviours.

You should be proactive, and always think about what could go wrong before it happens. You also need to be methodical and able to think through a process logically step-by-step. Communication skills are vital, as you’ll be dealing with people at different levels across the business. You should be persuasive and able to use your influence too.

We’re happy to recruit from outside the sector. Our team includes chemical engineers, people with law backgrounds, and former HMRC employees.

"My career at Wates has been very varied. I joined Wates Construction as a Production Management Trainee in 2017 after a wonderful five years working in site management roles, I moved across to the Wates Group Quality team in 2022. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Wates so far and have been given some incredible opportunities including recently being appointed onto the Future Leaders Board. There are endless career opportunities within the industry and my change in roles is just one example of that. It is evident Wates are a people focused company and they genuinely care about employee development.”
