Charlene’s journey into construction began with a desire to grow, learn and try something different.

What she found was a welcoming environment, a role that challenged her in the best ways, and a team that encouraged her to bring her full self to work. It was the start of a career she hadn’t expected, but now can’t imagine being without.

Today, she’s thriving as a Section Manager, overseeing key elements of project delivery and continuing to build confidence through hands‑on challenges. She credits the support of her team – and the opportunity to apply and further develop her skills in a different setting – with helping her grow both professionally and personally.

Along the way, Charlene has embraced new responsibilities, strengthened her communication skills and built strong relationships that make her feel part of something meaningful. Her journey shows how stepping into an unfamiliar industry can open doors to progression, purpose and long‑term career development.

Watch the podcast below to find out what Charlene values most at Wates, what has boosted her confidence, and her advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship.
